Welcome to my blog! This is a great place to check out my latest projects. Photography is a passion for me. There are few things that I enjoy more. I hope that you will like what you see. If so, please schedule an appointment or recommend me to a friend.
Oh how I love this little girl. She's part mine. Well let me explain. My aunt is my best friend in the whole world (we're six years apart). When she got pregnant, I ended up going to China *sad face*. Although we e-mailed often and even got to chat via Skype, I still missed getting the babies room (and house) ready, baby cloths shopping, baby shower, and the birth. I was sitting in China when she was have Soo...rude. It about broke my heart. Well I was determined that although I wasn't there to bond at her birth, I would still win her over as 1)her favorite and 2) give her a nic-name that would stick. I'm not sure how the first item is going (she's easily bribed), but the second one was successful! So there you go, Soo is part mine. Hope her mother doesn't mind.
Photographing kids is unpredictable, exhausting, and hilarious! If you've been around a three year old lately, you'll know they don't sit still and one trick only last for two seconds. So my philosophy on photographing children is to put them in an atmosphere that they enjoy and then follow them around as they explore it. This way the child stays happy, you get the true mannerisms of the child, and everyone's happy(ier) in the end. *I just had to put the picture in of her stubborn face*
P.S. I'm in love with her golden bouncy curls.

As many of you know, I am a blog stalker. I prefer to call it 'art research', staying current on what's new in the photo world and what other photographers are doing is essential! One such blog I love is Winkfotos by Emily Clark. Not only is she an amazing photographer, but she's one of the nicest people out there (one key to her great photos). This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend one of her workshops in downtown SLC and boy was it a blast! One of the great challenges with art is the continual learning of new tricks and techniques...and staying motivated. Well this workshop did that and more! Emily showed us some awesome stuff and I left with my mind reeling with info. I was just so excited to have learned new things and now go out and practice, practice, practice. I was especially happy with how my pictures turned out!

It's been a busy few months, but don't worry I'm still working on fun projects. Usually I focus on photographing people. Sometimes when I need some "me" time I like to photograph abandoned abstract objects. But this time I had the opportunity to do something totally different. My best friend's parents, Trent and Michelle Snow, are publishing a food storage cookbook and asked me to photograph some of the food. We all know I love food. I love to cook it, smell it, shop for it, and most of all eat it. I even like to photograph my fun creations and post them on my personal blog. However, this was on a whole new level. Since I do most of my photographing outside using natural lights, I don't really have the right lighting equipment to photograph food. Food is a tricky thing to photograph you see. We've all heard the stories that the food we see on billboards, in commercials, and even cookbooks are not really food. They use all sorts of means (sprays, plastic replicas, etc.) to make the food look fresh, colorful, and stay in place. So I'll have to admit I was a little nervous to be photographing food that would be in a published book.
But all it took was one bite of the yummy food (I had to make sure what I was endorsing was tasty) and I was ready to go. I never realized all that went into food photography. One thing I learned was the ability color has on food. From the plate you put it on, the background you put it against, and the lighting you use, it can either make the food look amazing (edible) or it can make the food look quite disgusting. The principle of contrasting colors is so true! It was really quite amazing to see.
As not to bore you, I'll move on to the truly exciting part. After a long process, the book is ready to hit the shelves and change your life. Not only is it packed with wonderful recipes (coconut pancakes being one of my favorites), but it has wonderful food storage information as well. "It's in the Bag-A new Easy, Affordable, and Doable Approach to Food Storage" is just waiting to be shipped to your home. The book comes out May 28th, but is available for pre-order now. I have lots of links for you to check out. First, their personal blog. If you see the author herself, Michelle Snow, will be doing book signings all over. I would highly recommend planning a visit to one of the stops. You can find the pre-order books Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
And if you look closely you can see my photos on the front cover. How exciting!

One of my highlights as a photographer is being able to photograph my family members. I feel like I'm able to really photograph who they are because I know and love them. That's the key with getting a "real" photograph. Anyone can pick up a camera and take a photo, but if you can capture the true emotion then you've got a keeper. And that's why I love to get to know the people I photograph. And that's why I photograph!
These kids are so cute I just want to pinch their cute little cheeks. Oh, and the goats are just as much family as any.

My baby is all grown up! Well she's not MY baby really, but my baby sister. We're 16 years apart, but the best of friends. I'm her peanut butter and I'm her jelly. I'm the one who helps her change her earrings, does her hair cute, and make sure she has lotion and chap stick. In fact I'm blamed for making her too girly. But she's offically eight and that means in our church she is getting baptized. So I had to take this chance to photograph this cute little girl. The other day we did the math, I'll be in my mid-thirties when she graduates. Ouch!
